treatment center Olympia WA

Dry eye disease is one of the most common debilitating eye conditions worldwide and often a primary concern for patients visiting the eye doctor. At most clinics, patients are met with a suggestion of artificial tears, maybe some warm compresses and sent on their way. We take a radically different approach to dry eye; we delve deep into the root cause of your symptoms and design a custom plan for your specific situation.

Determining the Cause

Our Dry Eye Evaluation is an in depth process like you have never experienced and will leave you with all the information needed to improve and protect your eyes from this aggressive condition. As well, we believe that prevention of dry eye disease is just as important as treatment, so all of our patients are screened for signs of dry eye disease at their annual exam.

LipiFlow Treatment

Dry eye disease has typically been treated with prescription eye drops or artificial tears, warm compresses, punctal plugs, dietary supplements, etc. At Eye Love Optometry we offer Lipiflow, an effective, safe, and drug-free approach to finding relief to dry eye disease.

LipiFlow is the only FDA-approved medical device designed to treat meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), the underlying cause of many dry eye disease symptoms. This painless treatment helps alleviate irritated eyes by warming the meibomian glands (in the eyelid) and massaging them to remove gland blockages.

If you have questions or concerns about dry eye disease or how LipiFlow treatments can help you, schedule an appointment us. We will be able to help you determine the best treatment options to manage your eye health.

Intense Pulse Light - IPL

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an innovative treatment used to manage dry eye syndrome, particularly when it's associated with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). MGD is a common underlying cause of dry eye, characterized by the dysfunction of the meibomian glands located in the eyelids. These glands produce the oil layer of the tear film, which prevents the rapid evaporation of tears, thus maintaining eye lubrication and comfort.

This non-invasive treatment applies light pulses to the eyelids, heating and unclogging the meibomian glands to improve the tear film's oil layer, thus enhancing eye lubrication and reducing dry eye symptoms. Beyond clearing oil blockages, IPL's anti-inflammatory effects also reduce eyelid inflammation, directly addressing a root cause of dry eye and providing significant relief.

Photobiomodulation

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a gentle, yet powerful treatment for people suffering from dry eye syndrome. Imagine using a special kind of light, not just any light, but one that's good for your cells, to help fix the irritation and discomfort that comes with dry eyes. This light therapy shines red or near-infrared light around your eyes, which doesn't hurt or feel hot, but works like a charm to boost the energy in the eye's cells. This energy boost helps the tiny oil glands in your eyelids work better, making your tears more effective at keeping your eyes moist and comfortable. Plus, it helps calm down any inflammation, making your eyes feel better. It's like giving your eyes a soothing, healing light bath that tackles the root causes of dry eyes, aiming to leave you with clearer, more comfortable vision.

Red-Light Therapy

Red-light therapy for dry eye treatment offers a non-invasive and innovative approach to alleviating dry eye symptoms. This method utilizes specific wavelengths of red or near-infrared light to stimulate the body's healing processes, potentially improving tear production and reducing inflammation around the eyes. By targeting the mitochondria within cells, red-light therapy aims to enhance cellular energy production, thereby promoting tissue repair and improving gland function related to tear production. Patients undergoing red-light therapy for dry eyes typically experience a painless treatment process, which can lead to significant relief from the discomfort associated with dry eye syndrome, including irritation, redness, and a sensation of dryness.

So impressed with Eye Love Optometry! I’ve been struggling with dry eye for over a decade and have seen a few different doctors. The evaluation and knowledge of Dr. Hamblet were far more comprehensive than anything else I’ve experienced. The staff was also very attentive, helpful, friendly, and patient with my many questions.
